What is it and how can it help my sport’s injury?
In today’s world, exercise is one of the most important parts of our lives. But, when you overexert with high intensity or for long periods of time while demonstrating bad posture, the soft tissue can injure. These injuries include muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Sports injuries reduce the soft tissue function increasing pain thus reducing your optimal conditioning. So, it is important after any sports injury to seek rehabilitation as quickly as possible. There are many therapies including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, electroacupuncture, laser therapy and prolotherapy to name a few. But, these therapies can be expensive and require expensive equipment, and more importantly, the effectiveness is still out for debate.
At Bonnette Physical Therapy, we offer an effective therapy that is easy on the pocketbook called IASTM, or Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization.
So, what is IASTM?
IASTM is a technique that involves using instruments to address musculoskeletal pathology-related conditions, helping to heal your soft tissue. By using an instrument on the injured soft-tissue will stimulate the activity of Fibroblasts and Fibronectin, realigning the collagen. IASTM can also reduce pain due to sports injuries and improve the function of the soft-tissue and range of motion in joints.
Results have shown that IASTM is an effective treatment and rehabilitation of athletes as well as ordinary people experiencing sports injuries. Following an injury, if IASTM is applied then it can help speed up healing! Isn’t that what we all want after an injury – a speedy recovery.
